Michael Blythe hopes the spirit of competition spurs interest in a Hyde Park house he is selling in an
unusual way this weekend.
Blythe, of West Chester, will use a round-robin, opening-bidding process
Saturday and Sunday to sell the home at 3724 Westgate Ave.
He said potential buyers will be able to walk through the house from 10 a.m.
to 6 p.m. both days and place bids on site.
He said bidding
for the 2,250-square-foot home will begin at $149,500, which he based on what
homes have sold for in the area.
Blythe, 47, works out of his house as consultant for Maritz Performance Improvement
Co., which bills itself as a reward and recognition solution company. He came
up with the idea to sell the home himself after reading a book that promised
to help owners sell their own houses within five days. Blythe said he plans
to accept a bid Sunday night.
"I like this approach because it allows buyers and sellers
to have an open dialogue on the largest investment most families will ever
make in buying a home," he said.
